NEW - Volunteer Share Program

Community agencies and dedicated volunteers now have the opportunity to expand their networks with the Volunteer Share Program. 

This newest initiative will allow non-profit agencies to collaborate with one another in a strengthened capacity.  A solid volunteer base is  created and sustained for all participating organizations to access and community members will have the opportunity to volunteer in a more diverse, unique and rewarding environment.

Current Edmonton Volunteer Opportunities

Recreation - Adult Bowling

This volunteer practicum opportunity combines the fun of bowling and the joys of knowing you are making a difference in someone’s life. This volunteer will be setting up the lanes and the ramps, accompanying program participants to the lane, socializing and creating a fun atmosphere for friends to meet together. You will also be assisting the team leader with attendance and award presentation. No bowling experience is required, but enthusiasm is a must!


Dates:

  3rd. Tuesday of each month

Times:

 6:30pm – 9:00pm

Special Events - May 2010 Awareness Month

Display tables: dates throughout May.
We need volunteers to man display tables at the Glenrose, University and Misericordia Hospitals, etc. along with members of our staff, in order to provide information to the public in a courteous and helpful manner. Volunteers should be outgoing, friendly and courteous -  and willing to learn all the facts about Cerebral Palsy, our mission, vision and the purpose of our association in Alberta, as well as being aware of related activities/ and services; training will be provided

Resource Fair – Location & date TBA
We need knowledgeable volunteers who are able to provide information to the public in a courteous and friendly (similar to Display Table requirements). This volunteer must be familiar with all aspects of the Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta – our services, activities, goals and members’ needs; training will be provided.

The Edmonton Annual Picnic

This volunteer will be outgoing and friendly, able to assist members with general needs and feeding.  Duties include food preparation and serving - as well help with set up and clean up. Willing to have fun and enjoy good food!

Date: June 2010 – Location & date - TBA

Administrative Assistant Volunteer: Edmonton Office

Purpose: To assist Administrative Support during holidays and days away-scheduled or non-scheduled
Responsibilities: Greeting and directing visitors, representing the Operations Program, by answering inquires about the different recycling initiatives, and the Vacation Villa, confirming clothing and bottle donation pick-up’s, general office duties such as emailing, faxing and other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Ability to speak English clearly over the phone
Good Customer Services Skills
Knowledge of general office equipment and basic computer skills
Support:
Successful volunteers will be trained by the Administrative Assistant in Edmonton
Time Commitment: As needed to cover Administrative Assistant during holidays and other days off- scheduled and non-scheduled.  Monday to Fridays, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

 

Go Green Assistant: Edmonton Office

Purpose: To help facilitate the Go Green program to maximize revenue.
Responsibilities: Calling Go Green hosts to see who needs a pickup. Volunteer will also help assemble the Go Green bins.
Qualifications:
Ability to speak English clearly over the phone.
Good customer service skills.
Enough mobility to help assemble receptacles.
Support: Successful volunteers will be trained by The Go Green Coordinator in Edmonton

Time Commitment: 2-4 flexible hours per week at the Edmonton office-flexible time of day.

Recreation - Computability Program

This volunteer position is an excellent practicum opportunity for someone who wants to share their computer knowledge and possesses information technology skills. This volunteer will assist individuals with computer start-up and log in, accessing e-mail, browsing the internet, working with productivity software, etc. Patience, teaching skills, a strong knowledge of computers and willingness to help others are an asset.

Dates and Times: Daytime weekday availability required. Sessions are typically one to two hours long and run once a week. Flexibility exists, sessions dates and times can work around your schedule.

Recreation - Ballerina Dreams

This volunteer will assist children with special needs during this modified therapeutic dance program, taught by a registered occupational therapist who is also a dance instructor.  Some experience with children and creative dance would be desirable, as well as a sociable nature and an interest in having fun!

The program runs for eight weeks and a time commitment of 45 minutes to one hour would be necessary.

Location: DanceCo Ltd, 9030 McKenney Avenue, St. Albert, AB.

Recreation - Members' Support Group

Need a night away from studying? Come socialize with our members' support group. This volunteer will be helping with group interactions, group member participation, and other various activities. A desire to socialize, have fun and be a friend is a must!

Dates: 1st Thursday of every month
Times: 6:15pm - 8:45pm (approx.)
Location: Villa Marguerite (9810 - 165 St.) In the auditorium

Current Calgary Volunteer Opportunities

Art Fundamentals

If you have an artistic streak then this is the position for you! Come help participants to create works of art through painting, sculpting, drawing and more, as well as helping our art instructor to prepare materials and clean up. One volunteer is needed who would also be able to assist a participant with mobility and moving from a chair to a wheelchair.

Dates: Thursday Mornings, for 12 weeks
Time: 9:30am - 11:30am
Location: Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta (3688 48 Ave. NE).
   


It's Gala Time Again!

Shine up your shoes, put your party hat on and come help us throw an event to remember.

The CPAA 2010 Gala will be held on May 7 at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino. Volunteers will be needed for a variety of roles including set up, security, silent and live auction assistance and help with take down.

Interested volunteers must be friendly, outgoing team players. Volunteers can enjoy the evening’s entertainment and will be given a meal.

Vacation Villa Connections!

Do you have the gift of gab? Put it to good use at the Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta!

Did you know that the CPAA has a custom-built fully accessible vacation villa available for rent? We are looking for someone to help spread the word. This position involves calling various locations in Calgary to place villa posters and brochures. Onsite support and training is provided as well as a script and contact list.

Vacation Villa Connections is a 5-10 hour time commitment done at your convenience. Our office is located at 3688 48 Avenue NE.

Interested volunteers must have excellent customer service and phone etiquette, clear diction and be comfortable speaking to the public and asking questions.

CPAA offers you free parking, coffee and tea and the opportunity to work in a fast, fun and diverse workplace.

Recycling Roundup!

Get Green this spring with the Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta.

CPAA is hosting a Recycling Roundup on Saturday April 24, 2010. Five volunteers are needed at the Southcentre Mall and five volunteers are needed at Marlborough Mall from approximately 9am-3pm.

This position involves assisting with the collection of recycling items such as bottles, clothes and household items. Volunteers will also assist at an awareness table to promote the CPAA Go Green recycling program to the public.

Interested volunteers must have excellent customer service skills, feel comfortable talking to the public and be able to move and lift items.

This is a great chance to volunteer with a group of friends or family in a fun and exciting setting.

Volunteers are needed April 6-8 to stuff envelopes. Bring a friend and choose your own schedule between 9am-4pm. The CPAA office is located at 3688 48 Ave NE Calgary.
