Cerebral Palsy Alberta offers programs to people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities that provide essential social interaction and healthy activities in nurturing environments
We believe that sport, recreation and leisure activities foster a balance between mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We have developed and adapted all of our programs to:

CALGARY MEET-UP GROUP

Please note that a CMUG membership is required for all participants of the Calgary Meetup Group. Some activities require an additional cost. To participate in our Calgary Meetup Group activities, purchase your CMUG membership.

DANCE WITHOUT LIMITS

Dance Without Limits is an inclusive program for children of all abilities and introduces them to the exciting world of dance, teaching children Jazz & Ballet! This program allows children with disabilities to truly feel like ballerinas. This dance class is tailored to the special needs of the children and is facilitated by volunteer dance students. Dance Without Limits is sure to boost your child’s confidence and build positive self-esteem and passion for the art of dance! In-Studio Showcase Performance to highlight the accomplishments of all of our dancers.

SWIM WITHOUT LIMITS

Our weekly swim programs are open to children aged 3-16 with any disability, not only cerebral palsy and begins with basic swimming skills to encourage children to feel comfortable in the water. The facilitator will modify the swimming experience to accommodate the needs and abilities of each individual and will guide the volunteers and/or parents to work with the children at their own pace. The ability to move easily and freely in the water is liberating and exciting for the children and with the assistance of the facilitator and volunteers, each child can experience the joys of being in the water, while having fun with their peers. The Swim Without Limits programs show children of all skill and ability levels that living a healthy, active lifestyle is possible, regardless of certain limitations.

ART FUNDAMENTALS
(AGES 18+)

Art Therapy allows clients self-expression using art and increased self-confidence through learning new skills. Participants explore a variety of materials and art making techniques, such as pencil on paper, acrylic paint on canvas, sculptures using wood, plaster and clay. Clients are encouraged to have fun and be creative while experiencing a sense of accomplishment when their projects are completed. Social integration engages participants with others and builds social connections.

FRIDAY FUN SEEKERS
(AGES 18+)

Young adults are invited to a fun afternoon of dancing, funky music, games, activities and hanging out with new friends. This program provides a fun filled afternoon of activities in a social environment.

GLEEFUL GARDENING
(AGES 18+)

Horticulture Therapy explores the use of plants, activities and the natural world to promote an understanding of how plants grow and provide excellent stimuli for the senses – sight, taste, touch, and smell. Clients experience selecting, sowing and harvesting a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers while intermingling within a group setting. Participants take part in activities that stimulate thought, exercise the body and encourage awareness of the external environment.

SPLASH TIME AQUA THERAPY PROGRAM

Our Aqua Therapy Program is tailored for children aged 2 – 12
​
Dip into our Splash Time Aqua Therapy Program! The Aqua Therapy Program for children aged 2 – 12 is designed to provide Aquatic Physiotherapy under the direction of a Physiotherapist, with the support of volunteers. The program will be hosted at a warm water pool to increase the benefits of Aqua Therapy. Starting rehabilitative therapies at an early age helps to support children with physical disabilities to improve muscle tone, balance and flexibility while providing the opportunity to connect with others to improve social skills and confidence. Participants benefit from a gentle resistance to improve strength, pain relief as the warm water increases the blood flow to the sore muscles and helps to reduce spasticity. Participants can use the reduced gravity in water to increase core strength used for stability and balance.

The CPAA will strive to ensure that each child is paired with a mentor to assist in the pool. However, should unforeseen circumstances occur, parents/guardians/caregivers are required to assist. By registering for this program, you are agreeing to this condition.

This inclusive program allows children of all abilities the opportunity to feel like ballerinas! This dance class is tailored to the special needs of the children and is facilitated by a certified ballet instructor and physical therapist. This program combines physical therapy with the opportunity to experience something new and is sure to boost your child’s confidence and self-esteem!

TREBLE MAKERS CHILDREN & YOUTH MUSIC THERAPY PROGRAM
(AGES 6-16)

Music Therapy classes are for children and youth between the ages of 6 – 16. The Treble Makers will learn a variety of instruments and songs, allowing them to express themselves through the power of music! This program is instructed by a certified Music Therapist and clients are supported by volunteers..

ART EXPRESSIONS

Wednesday Afternoons 2:30pm – 4:30pm – Art Gallery of Alberta

An integrated community-based creative arts program for persons with disabilities; all abilities welcome. This program enables participants to develop their fine motor skills while working with a variety of media on diverse projects, including painting, drawing, sculpture, printing, collage and more. Clients additionally learn to think creatively and interpret instructions in their own way to produce their own artistic expressions.

Learn the basics about computers in a supportive environment. The ComputAbilities Basic 1 class is for anyone who wants to learn how to use basic Microsoft Office programs as well as the basics of social media. Participants do not need to own a computer or have any previous experience. Just come and learn!

The ComputAbilities Basic 2 class teaches more Microsoft Office program skills and explores social media more in depth. A lot of practice time is provided so you can apply your new skills!

CookAbilities is an integrated, community-based cooking program for persons with disabilities. This program enables participants to experience different recipes each week related to themes & hands on experience in making the recipes. Clients explore different flavours and textures through these diverse dishes, while working as a team with their peers.

MORNING BLISS YOGA

This introductory gentle movement yoga class is designed to assist with healing body and mind and provides the opportunity for participants to explore yoga in a warm, non-competitive, and supportive environment. Clients increase mobility and manage stress by stretching their muscles in this class.

SOUND CONNECTIONS MUSIC THERAPY

The supportive, warm atmosphere of this program provides a safe space for participants to make their own sound, and has been shown to increase self-confidence.
